These are license study classes for ham radio licensing.
SVRC license classes are getting started at 6:00 p.m. in room 330 at the Red Cross building, 1045 Outer Park Drive in Springfield.
There will be classes for Technician and General licenses with the possibility of an Extra class study group.
There will be an exam session at the end of the classes.
We use the Gordon West books which are available from a variety of sources including Amazon. Be sure to get the current version for the class of license you are studying for.
MODES, MODES, AND MORE MODES
Modes. There's a word you run across all the time in amateur radio. What exactly do we mean by mode? Well, the answer is: it depends on the context in which it's used. There's modulation modes, operating modes, digital communication modes, and all kinds of other flavors of mode. K9ZXO takes a stab at explaining some of the possible uses of the word in this five minute "mini-lesson".

Get your ham radio license or upgrade to a higher Class! No charge for the class. We suggest you purchase the Gordon West Technician Amateur Radio Preparation study guide (2014-2018, Amazon, Ham Radio Outlet), or appropriate study guide for General or Extra class.

In the first of a series of educational offerings by the club, Mitch Hopper K9ZXO presented a two hour lesson on operating using digital modes. Twenty seven were attendance to hear the presentation. Various techniques were explained as well as hints to make attempts more successful.
Many thanks go to Mitch and to Steve Boll KD9GMR for the refreshments.
