2017 Field Day a Success!

Non-Hams visit GOTA Station

The 2017 Field Day held at Riverton Middle School on Saturday June 24th through June 25th was a success.  We had 9 stations participating. 20 meters was hopping and even 6 meters opened up for some great contacts.10 meters was a little slow much of the day on Saturday but started to heat up late in the afternoon then really took off Sunday morning.  All in all, W9DUA scored 1,755 points which have been submitted to ARRL for the final ranking.

Noteworthy achievements:

  • Roger, K9LJB, scored the most points:  356 points total working CW on mostly 20 meters but then wandered over to 40, 15 and 10 meters for some contacts.
  • Dave, AB9YG, scored the most contacts earning 250 points on 20 meters.
  • The GOTA station was surrounded by lots of interested non-ham visitors for much of the day and logged 30 contacts.
  • Field Day attendance topped 100 visitors which was a great turnout for this event.  Some of the visitors even came to the following SVRC club meeting to learn more about ham radio.
  • Two Boy Scouts earned their Radio merit badges and got on the air.

A big thank you to Jeremy KC9WMV and Ron KC9TEP, our Field Day orgnanizers.  And more big thank yous to all of the volunteers who came out and worked the Family Day exhibits, reception table, operators who set up stations and to whomever was in charge of the weather.  It was an absolutely beautiful day and perfect for being outside!
